How can you tell when an eggplant is ready to be picked? The reason I say this, is because Paige planted one in a basket outside. completely dark purple all the way around. The darker the color the better. slightly spongy to the touch, skin should spring back after you remove your finger. if mushy it is overripe, when you cut it cut above the root cap

I wanted to have a garden this year but to many things happening for me to even try. I hope next year I can have at least a small garden.

The "sheriff" is trying his luck with a raised garden. It measures about 5' x 20'. We've got bush beans(stringless), tomatoes, 4 kinds of pepper, okra, squash, cucumbers and white half runner green beans. The half runners are planted outside the box next to the fence he built around the whole garden. Cucumbers are planted along the fence on the other side. The beans and cucumbers will run up the fence.
My flowers are coming along nicely and so are the red knockout roses and elephant ears. We've put out a few shrubs and three more trees.
