Third grade: As long as my Mom & Dad both worked, Christmas was really great at our house. mama LOVED Christmas, and the food and presents were un-believeable! Right after Christmas when we went back to school our teacher, Mrs Furman Martin, had each child stand and tell what they got for Christmas. I could hardly wait to tell my long, long list. Then a little girl who lived out the street from us on the mill hill stood up. Her Mama and Daddy both worked in the mill, just like mine did. She had one brother and I had one sister. She said I got half an orange and half an apple and some hard candy. I was stunnd. That was my first brush with REAL LIFE. When it came my turn I said "I got a doll and fruits and nuts and candy." But when I got home that afternoon, I started through my Loot and that little girl had Christmas before she went to bed that night. There was plenty for both of us! I suspect that was my very first notion that giving was really fun!

Through the years we have had some very rough times at Christmas and some we good. This year was going to be a rough one but the lord sent someone into my life that shared something with me. It made me really think about things I have always said It is not what you get and how much. This year I felt as though I had let my family down. I got a card in the mail the day after Christmas and it was what the card said not what was in it that made me realize what was important. To that person I want to say thank you for what was written and the card itself was beautiful. Families and th e love of the Lord is the most important things in our lives and we all need to sit back and realize it. Starting with me Im sweeping under my own doorstep. Christmas I shared the reason with my Sunday School Class a couple of weeks ago but I went back today and I got to go over that lesson again. This time I didnt go through just the motions I got to share the lesson and tell it mor from the heart. Thank you friend.

It is 1998, Christmas morning, about 3:am in western NY, high on a hill in dairygrape country overlooking a valley. The moon is almost as bright as day and the snow is covering everything, the tree line on the one side of our property line is starkly gray-black. It is snowing great big fluffy flakes. I put a pot of coffee on and walked over to the sliding glass doors near our dining room table and saw our dog missy sitting there. She was making a soft, low growl in her chest, I looked but didn't see anything reached down and patted her. she continued to growl. I looked at her and saw the direction she was looking and sat down next to her on the floor and looked where she was looking. On the snow bank on the opposite side of the road stood a HUGE buck, He looked so majestic standing there, head lifted, smelling the air. as I watched he looked up the road then down the road and carefully walked down the snow bank and crossed the road, he climbed up the bank on my side of the road and stood at the top and to my amazement another HUGE deer came up the bank on the opposite side of the road and stood at the top of the same snow bank and did the same thing. as my dog and I watched 6 deer all together crossed the road in that fashion, slowly and silently they crossed the road, walked across our side yard and slowly, regally they strolled into the tree line at the edge of our property and just seemed to fade into the trees It was such a beautiful moment, my mind just kept saying "well, Santa has finished his deliveries and now has turned them loose for another year to be free until next year" As the subject line says "where are the cameras when you need them?

I saw that yard. I did not see the snow or the deer, but it was a most wonderful view even without them! I was there in the fall.
