Please tell me is there anyone else out tired of seeing people abuse the handicap parking. I pretty sure I have talked about this before but after what I seen today I 'm ready to start writing tickets myself. Today I was sitting in my car with my family waiting on my daughter to come out of a business along the strip where Shoe Show is. I was sitting there watching people fly up and down the strip wondering who was going to hit who first. When along came these young this car. The only place open was of course the handicap place. My son says watch this how much you wanna bet that is where they will park. Will that is where she parked the car. She bent over and picked up this handicap tag and hung it up over the mirror. Mind you we was sitting one space over facing the strip mall and she was pulling in facing the parking lot. So yes we could see it all. We watched as she got out laughing and closed her cell phone. Walked into one of the popular business along the strip. We was still sitting there when she came out a few minutes later carrying a very small bag.She did take time to stop and speak to someone as she came back across the parking lot. This person was joking with her about where she had parked telling her you ain't disabled. She makes the comment that she grabbed it out of her grandmas car so she wouldn't have to park far away. Now my blood was boiling. While she was in the place there was an older woman circling the lot. We could tell that she was looking for a place to park . So we backed up going to let her at least park that close. She however parked in a place behind us. She got out carrying a cane, bent over and wobbling. This lady needed to be close. She really needed a wheel chair but she was happy and smiling. I rolled my window down and told her hello. She smiled and told me hello. Now I would like to let everyone know that I would love to have a tickets book and start writing tickets. I don't believe in abusing the system. If you are disabled okay and I know not all people have a visible disability. I believe in obeying the law. If you carry a person in your car that you have to park in a handicap spot fine. If you are able to walk and they are not with you park somewhere else. I believe in treating people fairly. So someone please tell me I cant call 911 every time but is there not a number I could call and say hey this car is parked in a handicap place and trust me they are not handicap. I know a policeman cant come all the time but I think there needs to be something done higher up. There has got to be a solution. I'm tired of seeing people get done wrong. I should have been a cop

On the up side, soon it will be required that the handicap placard will have to include a photo. To all those that read this, and take handicap parking spaces unlawfully, I am gonna be looking for you this weekend.

My dad uses one, and to look at him, you might not see anything wrong. However he has a neurological disorder, and is disabled. I'll be glad when the photos are required, because I have also seen people use other folk's cards. I'm not sure exactly if it will accomplish much however, because I doubt any police officers will be sitting around next to handicapped spots waiting for the drivers to come out of the stores to see if it is them in the pictures. And what about the tags? Vehicles with the handicapped permanent tags don't have to use the placards at all, right? Are the tags going to have pictures on them too? lol...

You are correct sometime you cant tell and it is really bad that people abuse it. It makes it hard for people who really does need to have a handicap parking place. My daughter had a friend who was handicap and you cant tell it by just a quick look but she does have braces on her feet but you cant see them she usually wears long pants to cover them. People give her that dirty look when she parks in a handicap place. I t is like everything else something that is out there for people who need it but then you get people who take advantage of it and ruin it for the ones who deserve it. Dang I dont mean to be so blunt but I hate to see people like your family members, people I know and all the people who deserve handicap tags suffer from this problem. It hurts me to see someone try to walk from a far off spot to make it to a store and then you got someone like the lady I seen do what she did. Sorry folks next time I post it will be something cheerful. I just had to blow of steam and see what all of you thought.

Those who use those places and don't need them are really the most handicapped! They are seriously mentally retarded. Didn't you know? People who have permanent tags will have a card they have to carry.

One of my pet-peeves as well. When I was having to push Dad around in a wheel chair, those handicap parking spaces meant a lot to us, just to have enough room to get him in-and-out of the chair. Now, my Mom could use one and I think we are going to get one for her. While she walks well, her mental capacity is such that I have to hold tight to her to keep her from straying around in a parking lot. To be parked closer to a door would really help sometimes, especially if she is having a bad day.
What do you do when you see someone abusing the parking???

Anyone that sees such activity is encouraged to call the 911 Center's (non emergency) telephone number 864-487-2747, and report it. Be sure to give an accurate vehicle description.

Happy to hear it paramedic, I think it is abused over and over, but like someone said one should be REALLY sure the person does not have a "hidden Handicap" that could be embarrasing!
