Two of my siblings were born at home and doctors actually made housecalls. I remember having the mumps and the whooping cough. I was sick on christmas Eve one year and our doctor came over on house call and gave two of us a shot. Christmas was ruined for me after that trick until whenever. Anyone remember what aesofidia is? Shoo! It looked like a chocolate raisin and Dad would put it on a string and we would have to wear it around our neck to fight off infections. The first one of us to try it was my brother and my oldest sister. LOL, she got into it before Dad did and she thought it was candy and put it in her mouth. Forever funny! That was the stinkiest stuff I'd ever smelled. It usually wound up behind our beds.
Remember listening to the radio for entertainment? This was right before TV came out. We used to listen to Gang Busters, Intersanctum and Boston Blackie on sunday nights after church. Intersanctum was the one that always got us into trouble because when it first came on, there was the sound of a creaking door and it would scare us so bad that we'd start screaming and wind up laughing because Dad would holler in there and tell us to get quiet and if he heard one more peep, he'd come in there to us. We took turns saying, "peep".
