Not surprisingly, very little of Governor Nimrata Randhawa Haley's agenda has been passed by the Legislature. (And yes, that is her real name, although I do not seem to recall any "conservatives" around here using her real name or full name during the election... like they did with President Obama...) Reminiscent of Governor Sanford's days, except, he was a much more effective (and knowledgeable) Governor, even if I often disagreed with him.

Gov. Nimrata Randhawa Haley has called the Legislature into emergency session, because they never did get around to taking her agenda seriously (or perhaps it is just the Governor herself that they do not take seriously). So, the lawmakers will have to come back to Columbia next week, at a cost of $42,500 a day in salaries, plus other expenses. As one lawmaker said, "because she didn’t get her way."
South Carolina Governors have called the Legislature into emergency session only on seven (7) occasions in the history of the State, and the last Governor to do so was Jim Hodges.

www.thestate.com/2011/06/06/1848405/sc-senate-to-test-governors-return.htmlSenate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell is suing Governor Nimrata Randhawa Haley, over what he considers an abuse of power: "Calling the General Assembly into extra sessions violates the Separation of Powers Doctrine. The Governor has exceeded her authority to call the General Assembly into extra session and by doing so has intruded upon the legislative powers of the General Assembly." At issue is whether the Republican governor has the constitutional authority to call members of the GOP-controlled Legislature back when they're technically in recess.
And, McConnell is absolutely right! The state constitution requires an "extraordinary occasion" for such an order - like some kind of state of emergency. There is none, therefore the Governor has absolutely no authority to issue this executive order; she has no authority over the legislature at all!!

www.postandcourier.com/news/2011/jun/04/haleys-unwise-unwelcome-list/"With apologies to Lesley Gore, it was Gov. Nikki Haley's party and she could invite whom she wanted. But that doesn't mean she should have left about a dozen state legislators off the guest list for her session-ending get-together. ... The slight was akin to a child inviting nearly everybody in the class to a birthday party. The few little kids who are left out suffer hurt feelings."

UPDATE: As I said earlier, the Governor exceeded her powers by demanding the legislature to convene tomorrow, and the S.C. Supreme Court has affirmed exactly what I said... Queen Nimrata has learned the hard way that the constitution is a leash, not a crown!

The South Carolina Republican Party is intentionally trying to get rid of one of the state's top Democrats, by doing away with his district through redistricting... Hey, if you can't beat him in the polls... whatever... Sheheen almost won the race against our current Governor in 2010, and reportedly plans taking her on in 2014. But, if he can't get reelected to the Senate (because of his district being merged), then it will be difficult to run for Governor. www.fitsnews.com/2011/06/07/scgop-targets-sheheens-district/

As soon as Harvey Peeler decided to come up with a bill outlawing "bath salts" or whatever you call the stuff, all of a sudden every day in the news there is some new incident involving it making people supposedly do crazy stuff... Weird, I had never even heard of the stuff before... I have a sincere question regarding the outlawing of everything that can "harm" folks: alcohol kills more innocent people than all other controlled substances combined, so why not outlaw it, Mr. Peeler? I'm serious, let's not be hypocritical here. If the true purpose of such laws is to "protect" folks, then why not outlaw everything that harms people. If you can tax tobacco, and you can tax alcohol, then you can tax marijuana (whether its real or not). If you can regulate tobacco and alcohol (to keep it from minors), then you can do the same for these other substances. The purpose of government is to protect us from others, but it is crossing the line when it tries to protect us from ourselves (paraphrasing Ronald Reagan there)...

I am curious what the state law says - I suspect it only refers to those related to state business. I realize that with deleting some it is hard to know that they are only those that were not state business and that should be clarified (it it isn't).
I was surprised they kept all emails - my company deletes ALL emails after 30 days - drives me crazy.
