I can not begin to know how those families must feel, who lost their homes due to the fires which destroyed the 80 or more homes of one section because of the storm. The only hope they have so far is that no lives were lost in the fires, uless they have found out differently since I watched the news this afternoon. At the time I saw this on the news this morning, they hadn't heard of any lost in the fire. That in itself is a miracle with so many homes burning like dominoes! But this is just a few of the homes that were lost and my heart and prayers go out to them all tonight.....all over the area where the storm has hit, who have lost their homes and loved ones in different places, due to this terrific disaster. I was in several hurricanes when I lived in Charleston as a teenager.... "Gracie" being one of them....which wasn't a very strong one....but strong enough to scare us. Back then, we had to use kerosene lamps and small bottled gas camping stoves. Didn't have the battery lamps back then. When we first moved there, we didn't board up our windows and watched the inlet rise like waves a street over from our house. The next one that came, we boarded up! Don't wish to go through another one. That's the only thing I don't like about living at the beach or near the beach.

My mom is from New Jersey, so I still have a lot of family up there. They are all safe. One uncle's house is on the ocean front, and amazingly it is still there (will have no power for weeks though probably). An aunt lives further inland, and they have little damage and their power is already back on.

I had an uncle in Chicago until he passed and an aunt in Iowa until she passed. Still have a cousin in Iowa and she is ok.
The people in the affected areas can certainly use our prayers mostly buts sites are already up for whoever wants to contribute monetarily to these people.

Nonunion power crews being turned away from the Sandy recovery efforts. I'd be pissed if I lived there.

Those guys are definitely hard workers, but man do they get paid a chunk of money, probably at everyone elses expense. I guess that's why they're so defensive about the union. I always mess with them and tell them to stay out of SC because I don't want to subsidize their pensions. Then again, I can't really blame a guy for trying to maximize his income.

They claim they didn't need them at the place where they came. As much as people are hurting there, the least they could have done was direct them to a place where they could have helped! People are really fuming in New York because of the turmoil they are in and nothing being done. They say all that the government is doing is riding around with a clipboard in their hand just to have their picture taken to make it look like they are tending to the situation. Janet Napoletono and others just to be political for Obama and give him a good persona for votes......so they say.
